No-Gi Grappling

No-Gi Grappling is faster paced and more explosive than traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Gi and No-Gi are the two forms of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Gi Jiu-Jitsu is grappling with the use of a traditional Gi, which allows you to grab the clothing of your opponent. No-Gi is grappling without the traditional uniform instead, you wear shorts and a rash guard. In No-Gi we often focus heavily on techniques from Freestyle Wrestling. The takedowns and throws from wrestling transition smoothly from our techniques from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. No-Gi Grappling is faster paced and more explosive than traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

People often ask what I should start with? Gi or No-Gi? I tell my students it's best to try both styles and decide for themselves which one they like more. If you practice both Gi and No-Gi together you will find synergy between the two styles. Training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Gi will benefit your no gi and vise versa.
